The Chevrolet Silverado and its mechanically identical twin, the GMC Sierra is a series of full-size pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors and introduced in 1998 as the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K line. The Silverado name was taken from a trim level previously used on its predecessor, the Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks and Suburbans from 1975 through 1999. General Motors continues to offer a GMC-badged variant of the Chevrolet full-size pickup under the GMC Sierra name.A military version of the 2003 Silverado is called MILCOTS (Militarized Commercial Off-The-Shelf or colloquially as the "Milverado") and is being purchased by the Canadian Army. Canada has ordered 1,061 units from GM Defense. A similar but more armored platform is being used by the United States Army under the COMBATT (Commercially Based Tactical Truck) program.
